Frequently asked questions

Listed below are our most asked questions to help you find out even more about Microskin.

What is Microskin?

Microskin is a simulated second skin which is formulated individually to colour correct the patient's skin condition. It is a light liquidised application which is applied on to the epidermis (top layer of skin). Microskin is not a creme, and doesn't have the makeup appearance like other camouflage products.. Once applied Microskin is durable, flexible, and it won't rub off on clothing or linen. It's waterproof and allows your skin to breathe. Microskin is suitable for all genders and skin types.

Can I have a spray tan before coming in or whilst I'm wearing Microskin?

Microskin is colour corrected to your skin tone. When a spray tan is applied it places an artificial colour over your skin giving an incorrect reading during scanning. Please do not turn up to the clinic with an artificial tan on the day otherwise we will be unable to proceed with your appointment. The same procedure follows after Microskin has been applied. You can not apply an artificial tan.

Is it a makeup?

No. Microskin is not a makeup or a creme camouflage.

How long does the product last on your skin?

It varies with different skin types (oily/dry) and on different parts of the body. Microskin can last 1-2 days on the face as the natural oils will break the Microskin down faster. On other parts of the body you can get up to several days with an application, sometimes you can do a slight touch up to get a longer application. When applied to the hands the application will break down faster due to washing of hands frequently. Burns patients are able to get more wear out of their Microskin as they don't have the sweat or oil glands to break it down. Active users or outdoor users may break down faster due to climate conditions.

Why doesn't it last longer?

Microskin is applied to the epidermal layer (top layer of skin). The epidermis sheds daily, therefore Microskin can only stay on as long as the epidermal layer is intact. Each individual skin sheds at different rates. Childrens skin sheds faster and elderly skin sheds slower. It is important prior to application of Microskin to exfoliate the body to get a more balanced and longer lasting application.

Do I need to have anything other than Microskin on when I'm wearing it?

We recommend the use of a sunscreen at all times while outdoors. Do not use perfumes, aftershaves on any area that Microskin has been applied. Also do not apply body creams or lotions. A compatible moisturizer will be supplied during the training.

Does it look unnatural.

Depending on the skin condition that Microskin has been applied to, some people will achieve better results than others, this is due to texture of the skin, multiple layering and the high expectations of the client. Remember Microskin is not a cure, it is a visual colour correction of a skin disorder. We have found that clients view the success of Microskin differently to what the general public sees.

What happens if I am busy and don't have the time to apply Microskin correctly.

Microskin is not a quick fix, it takes time, dedication and you must make it a part of your day to day routine, to achieve the life changing experience Microskin can offer.

How is it applied?

There are two techniques of applying Microskin.

Stipple is the technique learnt for areas that are smaller than the size of the palm of your hand. A specially designed stipple sponge is used. The pore like texture of the sponge allows the Microskin to be applied by a 3D application then it is slowly built up giving the Microskin a skin like texture.

Airbrushing is the technique used for larger areas. The airbrush allows the user to achieve a fine, even application which dries quickly with the use of the airbrush. A consultant will determine what procedure best caters for your condition.

Will it work on all skin colours?

Yes. Microskin caters for all skin colours.

Can I just get the colour without training?

No. Microskin is a complete system. There are no short cuts. The consultant needs to take a scan of the skin and the affected area using Microskin advance colour correcting technology and then train the individual on the application of Microskin. Each formulation is unique, there is only one skin colour for one person, as each person has a different skin colour and a different skin condition to colour correct too.

Is there any age bracket?

No. Microskin has been successfully applied to all ages.

Microskin will not alter skin texture, Microskin helps camouflage, but does not make skin imperfections completely invisible. Improved mental outlook will vary for each client depending on a variety of factors (for example) some people are no doubt more comfortable with their pre-Microskin appearance and therefore will experience less dramatic improvement than those more traumatized by their unsightly appearance.
