About us
Linda Lowndes, founder of Microskin, originally conceived the idea of a world-first skin simulation technology after realising that make-up was the only method of concealing or camouflaging skin conditions.
“Current camouflage products can only match and cover small areas and create an unnatural appearance especially on males and children. At no time should people feel that their only option for covering skin related conditions is a heavy, thick make-up resulting in an uneven skin tone”
What transpired after many years of Linda studying cosmetic chemistry as well as developing specially designed software used to read human skin was a system to develop a spray-on simulated skin individually formulated for each client’s skin.
The result of years of research is a world first revolutionary new Australian product called Microskin. Microskin will not rub off, is completely waterproof, allows the skin to breathe and sweat, and would last for several days.
Since its opening in Brisbane in July 2005, Microskin International has assisted people from all over the world with skin related conditions such as, Vitiligo, Birthmarks, Burns, Eczema, Lupus, Keloid Scarring.
Microskin offers a far superior colour correction system, individually formulated for each client, allowing the user to feel confident in their own skin. Microskin International has since been nominated for and won numerous awards including the National Business Telstra Innovation Award, The Australian Government Business Innovation Award, The Commonwealth Small Business Champion Award and The Sensis Business Ideas Award.
The company has also committed itself to ongoing medical research to further understand the psychological effects of using a simulated second skin on people with burns. This research has included funding a 2005 study by the Royal Children’s Hospital Burns Centre in Brisbane and The University Of Queensland Australia, and more recently a 2009 study looking to demonstrate how children can overcome the social stigma attached to burn scars and other skin conditions using Microskin.....
‘this product can help alleviate these difficulties and help with a patient’s overall recovery and rehabilitation” Professor Roy Kimble stated.
